In partnership with the Multicultural Communities Council of Illawarra (MCCI) and Shellharbour City Council, we celebrated Harmony Day with a special community event, celebrating all things multiculturalism in aged care!

In celebration of Harmony Week, we partnered with the Multicultural Communities Council of Illawarra (MCCI) and Shellharbour City Council, to hold a special community celebration that highlighted the importance of multiculturalism and inclusion for older people. The event was held yesterday, on Thursday 20 March 2025, and was a fantastic chance to bring everyone together and celebrate the diversity in our local community!

Close to 100 people attended the event, as they enjoyed amazing performances from local Aboriginal cultural dance group, Gumaraa, and Warrigal’s PALM (Pacific Australia Labour Mobility) team members who performed traditional Fijian singing and dancing. Attendees also enjoyed food from around the world with catering from M2 Kitchen, including delicious traditional Italian, Greek, and Indian food!

Warrigal CEO, Jenni Hutchins said, “At Warrigal, diversity isn’t just acknowledged—it’s embraced as a strength that enriches our community. With over 60 nationalities represented across our staff and volunteers, our teams bring a wealth of cultural perspectives, traditions, and experiences that enhance the lives of the older people we support.”

She continued, “Now, more than ever, fostering inclusivity and understanding is essential. As the world around us continues to change, our commitment to diversity and inclusion must remain steadfast—because when we stand together, we create stronger, more connected communities. Harmony Week gives us a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Australia’s cultural diversity and reflect on how our differences strengthen our community and enrich the care we provide.”

Jenni also had the opportunity to sit down with Warrigal Albion Park Rail Community Village resident, Illona Cikos, who shared her beautiful personal story of her move to Australia for a better life. She spoke about how she has found a supportive community in our community village, and continues to live a life she enjoys.

At the end of the event, attendees had the opportunity to chat about all things multicultural and aged care, with stallholders from MCCI, Shellharbour Council, Sisters Cancer Support Group, and our Warrigal Customer Relations team members.
