The Warrigal Way

Let’s define it.

The Warrigal Way is putting older people first in everything we do; engaging them at every level of the organisation; smashing ageist paradigms and changing mindsets about aged care and community villages; and building an intentional culture that celebrates all of this and more.

We’re an award-winning, community-owned aged care organisation serving the Illawarra, Southern Highlands, Queanbeyan, and Canberra regions. Our core belief is in tailoring care and support to your individual needs, regardless of your financial situation.

Our Founder

Norm Rowland, OAM

As President of the Shellharbour Lions Club, Norm identified a need for services between Mount Kiera in Wollongong and the Victorian border. With the support of Shellharbour Council and the local community, he spearheaded the establishment of Warrigal in 1964 on Mount Warrigal. What began as a ten-bed rest home staffed by volunteers has since evolved into 26 services, reaching over 4,000 older Australians across 15 locations in NSW and the ACT.
